Sarma of Serbia

Screen Shot 2016-07-08 at 3.12.43 PMOur very first international dish! This was a fantastic start to our adventure. Sarma is a meat and rice stuffed cabbage roll cooked in a tomato base over several hours. Despite being familiar with all of the ingredients separately, it was the combination which tasted novel and beyond American cuisine. Quite simply, we enjoyed this dish. Eastern European dishes, I have found, have an element of comfort to them. They remind me of classic Midwestern dishes, like Minnesota Hot Dishes or a simple meat and potatoes dinner (with the occasional vegetable). Hearty and filling.
